Earth Day 2025 “Our Power, Our Planet”
January 22, 2025
Exciting news for our organization and sustainability. The City of St. Catharines has officially approved the construction of our greenhouse at the Buchanan Teaching Gardens. This is a major milestone for our community and our ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, food security, and environmental education.
A Step Towards a Greener Future in our community
The greenhouse will serve as a hub for growing fresh, organic food year-round, reducing dependence on external food sources and empowering local residents with access to healthy produce. More than just a place for cultivation, this space will provide hands-on learning opportunities, workshops, and community engagement in sustainable farming practices.
Why This Matters
The approval of this greenhouse aligns perfectly with our mission at Links for Greener Learning to create sustainable solutions for food security. By integrating this initiative within the Buchanan Teaching Gardens, we are building an ecosystem where education, sustainability, and community well-being come together.
- Fresh, organic food: The greenhouse will provide locally grown produce, reducing food miles and promoting healthier eating habits.
- Community empowerment: Through workshops and training sessions, residents will learn valuable skills in urban agriculture and sustainability.
- Environmental impact: Supporting local food production helps reduce waste and carbon footprints while fostering greener urban spaces.
What’s Next?
With city approval in place, we are now moving forward with the planning and construction phases. Over the coming months, we will share updates on the progress, volunteer opportunities, and ways for the community to get involved.
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this initiative. Your encouragement and commitment to sustainability have been instrumental in making this vision a reality.
